the library’s operations are set to move to College Park, Maryland, by late Fiscal Year 2025, which runs until September 30, 2025.
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has confirmed.
All presidential documents and artifacts from the facility estimated to be 25 million unclassified paper records are being digitized.
Once completed, these records will be accessible at the new Obama Presidential Center.

The transition to digital archives aims to improve accessibility and streamline historical research.
Trump highlights federal waste amid library closure

President Donald Trump, in a recent address,
listed examples of what he called “appalling waste” of taxpayer dollars within the federal government.
“Just listen to some of the shocking waste we have already uncovered,” Trump stated, before detailing expenses he deemed unnecessary.
Among the examples he cited were:
- $22 billion from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for providing free housing and cars to undocumented immigrants.
- $45 million for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) scholarships in Burma.
- $8 million to promote LGBTQI+ initiatives in Lesotho, Africa.
- $32 million for a propaganda campaign in Moldova.
- $20 million for an Arab Sesame Street program in the Middle East.
- $1.9 billion allocated for decarbonization projects, reportedly connected to Stacey Abrams.
Trump further criticized spending on projects such as funding transgender studies in mice and mail circumcision programs in Mozambique, drawing laughter from the audience.
He assured taxpayers that this was only the beginning of identifying and eliminating what he described as wasteful government spending.
