An Officer Commanding Station (OCS) accidentally shot a bar attendant at a night club within Kapcherany Trading Centre, Bomet County.

The incident took place on Tuesday November 26, 2024 at night when the senior police officer allegedly handled his firearm in an improper manner.

The OCS from Trans Nzoia County was reportedly showing a drinking companion how the weapon operates when it accidentally discharged, hitting the bar attendant in the stomach.

The injured attendant was quickly taken to Litein Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for a serious gunshot wound.

According to a report by Bomet County Deputy Police Commandant Jamleck Ngaruiya, officers from the Kapletundo Police Station arrived at the scene, secured the area and collected statements from the pub owner and witnesses.

The officer was relieved of the firearm and detained for questioning as investigations into the incident are still underway.

The incident has raised alarm about how law enforcement officers handle firearms, particularly in casual and public environments.
