ODM says letter indicating withdrawal from Azimio is fake

National NewsNews

The Orange Democratic Movement party ODM has clarified that the letter in circulation about the party’s plan to withdraw its membership from the Azimio la Umoja Coalition is fake.

ODM maintained that it was still in the coalition urging members of the public to ignore the letter.

“Only fake minds, fake things,” the party clarified.

The fake letter claimed that the ODM had decided to withdraw from the Deed of Agreement that established the Azimio coalition after a National Executive Committee meeting.

The letter addressed to Registrar of Political Parties Anne Ndeitu claimed it was signed by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and copied to all constituent parties of the Azimo coalition.

Notably, the letter emerged amidst a fallout between Raila’s close allies and leaders from the Azimio constituent parties.

Kamwene is a group of Azimio leaders from the Mt Kenya region.

In a statement on Wednesday, December 13, Kioni said it was sad for Mutua to use protests as a measure of loyalty to Azimio.

According to Kioni, Kamwene will remain firmly in Azimio despite the remarks by Mutua.

“It’s unfortunate that some busy bodies led by Makau Mutua have set ‘maandamano’ as a standard to measure loyalty or respect granted to individuals in Azimio.

“A process in which many Kenyans lost their lives fighting for a better Kenya. We firmly remain in Azimio to stay. Get back to me on substantive issues,” stated Kioni in a statement posted on his X account.
