Authorities have launched an investigation after a police officer attached to the Presidential Escort Unit collapsed and died unexpectedly in Karen, Nairobi.
The incident took place on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 22, around 3 p.m., as the officer was preparing to enter an official vehicle.
The deceased, identified as Sergeant Daniel Kipruto Kangogo, was with fellow officers at the time of the incident.
Witnesses say Kangogo was about to board a government-issued four-wheel-drive vehicle when he suddenly collapsed.
His colleagues acted quickly and transported him to Karen Hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival.
The exact cause of his death has not yet been determined. Authorities have indicated that the body was taken to the mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death and guide further investigations.
Sergeant Kangogo was a member of the elite Presidential Escort Unit, commonly referred to as “Prescot,” which is responsible for the protection of the President and his immediate family.
The sudden death of an officer from such a highly sensitive security team has prompted a thorough probe.
In a separate incident, police in Masinga, Machakos County, are investigating the origin of an undetonated explosive device that was discovered by locals in Kaseve village on April 21.
Residents who found the suspicious item quickly alerted authorities. Bomb disposal experts were deployed to the scene and safely secured the area.
The device was later moved and detonated in a controlled environment to prevent harm. Investigators are now working to trace the source of the explosive and determine whether it poses any larger threat.
Both cases remain under investigation, and authorities have promised transparency as they work to uncover the circumstances surrounding these alarming events.
