Former Harambee Starlets coach Charles Okere will assume the role of head coach on an interim basis at Tusker FC following the departure of Coach Robert ‘Lion’ Matano, whose six-year stint concluded with the completion of his contract.
Okere, who previously served as Matano’s second assistant coach, will lead the team until a permanent coach is appointed.
Charles Okere is notably recognized for achieving the top position in the 2023-24 CAF A Diploma class, surpassing 25 other coaches in the class.
The coaching position at Tusker became vacant on Wednesday when the club decided not to extend Robert Matano’s contract.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, July 18, the club announced the departure of 11 first-team players following the expiration of their contracts. Among them are Eric Kapaito, Daniel Sakari, Brian Bwire, Eric Zakayo, Stewart Omondi, Collins Otieno, Jimmy Mbugua, Eugene Asike, Boniface Onyango, Eric Otieno, and Ibrahim Joshua.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of these players for their dedication, hard work, and contributions to the club. Their efforts have been integral to our achievements, and their commitment to the club will always be appreciated,” the club stated on its website.
The club views this decision as marking a new chapter, stating, “as we continue to evolve and build towards future success.”
