Olunga promises good results in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers slated for June

After an excellent performance at the Four Nations Tournament in Malawi, Harambee Star now switch their focus to the World Cup qualifiers slated for June this year where Kenya will play Burundi before taking on African Champions Ivory Coast a week later.

The Kenya National senior team head coach Engin Firat has exuded confidence in the boys adding that the boys have began cultivating a winning mentality which was instrumental in the winning of the Four Nations Tournament title.

This is the first trophy for Kenya since 2017 when the team won the Cecafa.Firat also added that team deserved the praises for the great performance in Malawi.

“We got very good results after the team made great sacrifices and we know how many sacrifices we have made as a team. I believe the belief in this team will go higher and we have an opportunity to do great things,” Coach Engin Firat stated during a short presser at the JKIA when the team landed in the country from Malawi.

On his part Football Kenya Federation FKF President Nick Mwendwa assured of the federation’s commitment in helping the team prepare for the World Cup qualifiers match.

“The last time we won a trophy was in CECAFA in 2017. We are excited of course but this is behind our backs. We have a lot of work to do before June and we will continue investing to ensure this team is ready,” Mwendwa noted.

The MVP of the Four Nations Tournament Michael Olunga lauded the team for their togetherness and camaraderie during the competition adding that the win was a great confidence booster for the boys.

He at the same time called on Kenyans to continue supporting the team as it continues to grow.

“This is a good confidence booster for the boys and it shows that the team is coming up well. We have a very good squad with a blend of experience and young players and the chemistry has really grown. Come June, I believe that we will produce good results bearing in mind we are playing at home,” stated Olunga.

Harambee Stars will begin their world Cup assignment when they take on Burundi June 3rd and the Ivory Coast June 10th. Kenya is in group F which consists of Ivory Coast, Burundi, Gambia and Gabon.
