Harambee Stars forward Michael Olunga celebrated turning 30 in style by helping Kenya clinch the Four Nation Tournament title.
Olunga who is also the Kenya National Men’s senior team captain scored a hattrick to beat Zimbabwe 3-1 in the invitational tournament staged in Malawi.
Defender Joseph Okumu’s own goal had put Zimbabwe ahead early in the match, however, captain Olunga scored right at the end of the first half before doubling his tally midway through the second half.
The skipper, who plies his trade in Qatar put the final nail in Zimbabwe’s coffin after a superb 88th Minutes strike putting the game to bed.
Olunga now has a total of five goals in the Four Nations Tournament, he began by scoring a brace in Harambee Stars‘ opening fixture against hosts Malawi over the weekend which saw Coach Engin Firat’s boys secure a 4-0 win.
Kenya’s goalkeeper Patrick Matasi was also forced into two good saves in quick succession, one after a swift attack from the Zimbabweans, while the second was an attempted dink over him after the Southern Africans got in behind the Harambee Stars’ defense.
Coach Engin Firat went with the same 11 that started against Malawi, showing faith in his squad.
The win has boosted the squad’s confidence ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers match against African champions Ivory Coast and Burundi slated for June this year.
