Olympic champions Beatrice Chebet and Abraham Kibiwott have been promoted by the National Police Service (NPS) in recognition of their remarkable achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Chebet secured two of Kenya’s four gold medals by winning the women’s 5000m and 10,000m finals, while Kibiwott earned a bronze medal in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, contributing significantly to Kenya’s overall medal tally.
In a ceremony held at Jogoo House “A,” Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli officially promoted the athletes in the presence of their fellow NPS colleagues, who also represented Kenya at the Paris Games.
“Acting Inspector General of Police Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, on August 14, 2024, welcomed NPS athletes who represented Kenya in the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympic Games at Jogoo House ‘A.’ The Acting IG expressed his gratitude to the athletes for their dedication and discipline,” read a statement on the National Police Service’s official X account.
Masengeli elevated Beatrice Chebet and Abraham Kibiwott to the rank of Corporal, acknowledging their outstanding performances. “Corporal Chebet, a record holder in the 10,000m, earned two gold medals after impressive showings in the 5000m and 10,000m races,” the statement continued.
The event also featured appearances by other prominent athletes, including 800m bronze medalist Mary Moraa, 3000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech, and Rio Games javelin silver medalist Julius Yego.
