Olympics scandal: Austrian Hockey player in trouble for purchasing Cocaine in Paris

Austrian hockey player Thomas Craig, 28, is in trouble for purchasing cocaine in France’s capital. The Olympian last played in his team’s quarterfinal defeat to the Netherlands at the 2024 Olympics on Sunday.

The transaction took place in Paris’ 9th arrondissement near an apartment building, with police officers surprising the athlete and the suspected dealer, who was also arrested.

Authorities revealed that the deal went down on the night of August 6 and 7, adding that local police “arrested the seller, born in December 2006, and the buyer, born in September 1995 in Australia.”

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) confirmed an Australian hockey team member is in custody, and that no charges have been pressed yet.

“The AOC is continuing to make inquiries and arrange support for the team member,” it added.

After he was released from custody, Craig addressed the public, admitting what he had done and issuing an apology.

“I made a terrible mistake, and I take full responsibility for my actions, which are mine alone and in no way represent my family, teammates, friends, the sport I play, or the Australian Olympic team. I have embarrassed you all, and I am truly sorry for that,” said the field hockey player.

The case has been handed over to the police’s narcotics unit. Tom Craig doesn’t have to worry about being thrown out of the Olympics, as his team has already been eliminated in the quarter-finals. However, it is certain that he will face a suspension and a break in his career.
