Athletics Kenya (AK) has extended an invitation to African and Commonwealth 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala to participate in the trials at Nyayo Stadium for the selection of Team Kenya that will compete in the World Athletics Relay.

According to AK, the invitation is extended to only 83 athletes, from whom a team will be selected to travel to Nassau, Bahamas, for the global Relay event slated for May 4th and 5th.

The athletes from Kenya will compete against their counterparts from the East African region during the trials at Nyayo Stadium happening this Saturday.

The scheduled events include the 4x100m and 4x400m relays for both men and women, as well as the 4x400m Mixed Relay.

Kenya will also use the World Athletics Relay as a pathway to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for the 4x100m relay team, where only 14 teams qualify to participate.

Kenya is currently ranked 27th in the men’s 4x100m, 15th in the men’s 4x400m, and 20th in the mixed relay, with the women’s 4x400m at 25th place.

Notable names in the list include Hesbon Ochieng, three-time national 100m champion Mark Otieno, Ferdinand Omanyala’s younger brother Isaac Omurwa, and Mike Mokamba, who are all in contention for a place in Team Kenya.

The women’s roster features world 800 meters champion Mary Moraa, sprinter Joan Cherono, seasoned Milicent Ndoro, among others.
