Omanyala: My success has made villagers seek my Mum’s advise

Ferdinand Omanyala embarked on his athletics journey at the age of 20.

At that point, many of his peers in the sport had already made names for themselves.

Some had achieved worldwide recognition and broke records in major races across the globe.

However, Omanyala, armed with his searing speed and a promising rugby sevens career, decided to venture into athletics.

Born into a humble family, Omanyala faced the same daunting odds that many athletes encounter.

It was a relentless struggle, a battle that had to be won, and a dream that had to be fulfilled.

In 2015, he participated in his first AK meet in Mumias, Kakamega County, clocking 10.4 seconds.

However, his journey took a significant hit in 2017 when he was found guilty of a doping offense, resulting in a 14-month suspension.

In those dark moments, he turned to prayer to overcome adversity.

Ferdinand Omanyala has become both Africa’s fastest man and the national record holder in Kenya.

He set his fastest time of 9.77 seconds on home soil at Kasarani Stadium.

Omanyala acknowledges that his success has positively impacted his family, particularly his parents.
