Omanyala to lead team Kenya at the World Indoor Championship

Ferdinand Omanyala is among 11 Kenyan athletes that will fly the Kenyan flag at the World Indoor Championship slated for March 1st in Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Games 100m champion will headline star-studded Team Kenya as he makes his second appearance since 2022 at the global event.

He will be participating in the 60 meter race, coming from smashing the national 60m indoor national record at the Miramas indoor meet last weekend after clocking 6.52 seconds,.

Africa’s fastest man is optimistic of a good performance as he is the only Kenyan in the 60meters race.

28 year old Omanyala will be joined by World under-20 1500m champion Reynold Kipkorir and former world junior champion Vincent Keter will compete in the men’s 1500m race. 

Also making a return to the World Indoor Championships is youngster Noah Kibet who was one of stars in Serbia where he won silver in the men’s 800m after clocking 1:46.35.

He will be joined in the men’s 800m by Collins Kipruto who is no stranger to the World Indoor Championships, having competed and finished fourth in the same race in Belgrade.

The 11-athlete team also boasts several young debutants including the 2021 World Under 20 3000m champion Teresia Gateri.

Athletics Kenya (AK) executive committee member David Miano will be in charge of the team with Bernard Ouma as the coach.

The team is scheduled to depart for Glasgow on February 28.
