A Matatu driver has lost his life, and 16 others were injured in a tragic accident along the Narok-Bomet highway.
According to a report from the National Police Service (NPS) on Monday, the collision involved a Toyota Hiace Matatu owned by Transcar Galaxy Sacco and a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry.
The head-on collision occurred at the Tegero area in Narok County around 1:15 am.
“A tragic road traffic accident occurred today 08/01/24 at about 0115hrs at Tegero area along Narok-Bomet road involving a Toyota Hiace matatu belonging to Transcar Galaxy Sacco and Mitsubishi Fuso lorry after a head on collision,” NPs stated.

The injured individuals were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital for medical treatment.
“The Matatu driver sustained fatal injuries at the scene, while five passengers suffered serious injuries, and eleven passengers incurred minor injuries, “PS added.
Elsewhere, three people died in a road accident along Isinya-Kitengela road.
According to NPS the accident involved a Toyota Matatu and an Isuzu Lorry at Kisaju area.
Bomet Accident
In a separate incident on Sunday, two people lost their lives in an accident along the Ndanai-Sotik road involving a Boda Boda and a Toyota Probox.

Sotik sub-county police commander Andrew Muturi reported that the Probox was traveling towards Ndanai when it collided head-on with an oncoming Boda Boda while overtaking another vehicle.
The Bodaboda rider died instantly, and the pillion passenger passed away while on his way to Kaplong hospital.
Accidents Statistics
Regarding accident statistics, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reported that in 2023, 4,139 people lost their lives due to road accidents.

This is however, a decrease from the 4,157 deaths recorded in previous years.
In 2022, NTSA reported 4,690 deaths in Kenya. Among the causes cited were losing control of vehicles (960 deaths), unknown causes (685 deaths), lack of lane discipline (529), improper overtaking (501), and misjudging clearance distance or speed (334), respectively.
