A school bus carrying students from Uzima University was involved in a tragic accident on Monday, July 15, in the Mamboleo area of Kisumu.
The bus overturned at the Coptic Roundabout along the Kisumu-Kakamega Road, resulting in the tragic loss of one life and leaving 46 others injured.
Footage and photos from the scene depicted a harrowing sight, with several individuals gathered around as efforts were made to assist the students from the overturned bus.
An eyewitness recounted that some students had suffered severe head injuries, and the bus itself sustained significant damage.
The injured students were swiftly taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for urgent medical care.
St John’s ambulance confirmed the incident, stating, “At around 6pm, our paramedics and members of the public rescued 46 passengers believed to be students of Uzima University after their bus was involved in a road accident at Coptic Round about in Kisumu, along the Kisumu-Kakamega road. We wish them a quick recovery.”
As the investigation into the incident continues, the cause of the accident is yet to be established.
