One killed several injured in Bungoma accident

One person lost his life on December 18, 2023, through a tragic road accident involving a bus belonging to Green Line company.

The incident occurred at Kona Mbaya area near Chesikaki market in Mt Elgon Constituency, Bungoma County.

Cheptais OCPD Jesse Mwakiria reported that at least 39 others were injured during the incident.

“At least forty passengers were on board the vehicle, which came from neighboring Uganda,” stated Mwakiria.

He mentioned that they managed to tow the vehicle to a nearby police station as the investigation continues.

“We visited the accident scene and towed the vehicle to Chesikaki police station,” he added.

The Injured are recovering at Cheptais sub county hospital and spikers private hospital.

Eldoret-Nakuru Accident

Elsewhere, this morning, atleast four people lost their lives on a tragic road accident involving a matatu belonging to Msamaria Shuttle Ltd.

The Msamaria shuttle lost control and collided head-on with a 60-seater bus at Hill Tea Area along Eldoret-Nakuru Road.

The matatu, carrying 16 passengers, led to the deaths of the driver and three passengers on the spot.

Nine other passengers sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital.

Police blame driver negligence for accidents

Meanwhile police in Makueni county are blaming the drivers negligence on the accidents that have been occurring during this festival seasons.

On Saturday, 16,12,2023, at least 10 people lost their lives in a tragic road accident at Kwa Mbisu area of Mbooni West in Makueni county.

The incident was confirmed by the Regional Police Commander Joseph ole Napeiyan who said that the driver of the matatu belonging to Makos Sacco was overspeeding when the accident occured.

“It occurred today (Saturday)at around 6.30pm at Nthungoni Red Sea Area on Kikima – Machakos Road involving a 14-seater matatu belonging to Makos Sacco.

The area Sub-county Commissioner Stanislaus Apwoka said that, the drivers have been reckless leading to the numerous death to the roads.

Apwoka urged the motorists to be cautious during the festive period.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr called on drivers to be more careful on the roads, especially during this festive season, and warned the public against boarding overcrowded vehicles.
