Opposition leaders have strongly condemned the brutal killings of five citizens during a violent clash between Angata Barrikoi residents and police officers in Narok County on Monday, April 29.
Led by Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the opposition leaders condemned the incident during a strategic meeting held on Tuesday, April 29 in Nairobi.
The violence erupted after local residents, claiming historical ownership of the 6,300-acre land, blocked the main road to prevent land officials from surveying and demarcating the area.
In a statement after the strategic meeting, the leaders rued that land fraud and displacement had become a national crisis because the justice system has been compromised.
“Land fraud and displacement has now become a rampant national crisis. Organized syndicates, operating with the protection of heavy-handed police forces and a compromised justice system, are fraudulently preparing ownership documents to forcefully and illegally expropriate land from rightful owners,” the statement read in part.
The leaders accused the Kenya Kwanza Government of not handling the said crisis.
BBC exposé
They praised the BBC for exposing police brutality in the county that was long due.
“The International Media broadcaster BBC’s scathing documentary #BloodParliament has further exposed what Kenyans have long suspected.” it stated. “We are appalled by the deliberate reluctance of relevant government agencies to investigate and prosecute these atrocities. Instead, there has been an active campaign to criminalize peaceful protestors, branding them as ‘treasonous criminals’ and an ‘attempted coup’ aimed at destabilizing our country—as Dr. Ruto stated during his media address on the night of June 25, 2025.”
The opposition is also accusing independent institutions tasked with holding security agencies accountable, for example the IPOA and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), of abdicating their constitutional mandates.
“Kenyans have lost complete trust in the accountability mechanisms and therefore call for an investigative commission that include state and non state actors to hold the rogue officers accountable. What we are witnessing today is the rise of a gangster regime that has no regard for human life, no respect for the rule of law, and no commitment to the Constitution.”
