Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has declared he will not pursue legal action against those who looted his newly launched club, Timba XO, during ongoing protests against the Finance Bill.
The legislator’s upscale establishment was severely damaged and ransacked by looters, who reportedly stole valuable items, including expensive alcohol.
In a heartfelt social media video, Sudi expressed deep sadness over the turn of events, attributing the destruction to what he called “goons” who he claimed infiltrated the protests led by Gen Z.
“I am deeply saddened by what happened at Club Timba. I’ve always been about building, whether it’s schools or churches. I’ve never condoned destruction,” Sudi remarked in the video.
“The people who did this are from our own community. But God sees everything. I will not retaliate against them.”
Sudi went on to dismiss claims that the looters represented Gen Z, asserting they were individuals well-known in his constituency who had maliciously targeted his business.
He emphasized his decision not to escalate the situation legally, choosing instead to suspend his plans until further notice.
“To those who orchestrated this, I wish you well. You have used our youth wrongly. I know the potential of our young people, and this violence was unnecessary,” Sudi added, addressing the perpetrators directly.
His stance reflected a desire to quell tensions and move towards reconciliation amid the aftermath of the destructive protests, which saw widespread property damage and unrest across the county.
Alongside the video, Oscar Sudi also wrote:
What transpired on Tuesday, which followed an otherwise peaceful protest by Gen-Z is unfortunate.
However, the magnitude of the loss of lives, looting and property destruction that happened is appalling.
It negates the spirit of our constitution.
In my entire life, I have never organised or ill-wished my political competitors
And it is shocking when they take advantage of innocent youth and take charge of the peaceful protest to wreak havoc.”
Following the mayhem, I have forthwith suspended all my political activities and I’m defenseless to protect all my properties.
