Over 300 families left homeless after fire outbreak in Nyahururu

Over 300 families were left homeless after a fire outbreak on Monday January 20, 2025 at night in Manguo village, on the outskirts of Nyahururu town.

This was after seven plots were affected by the fire tragedy that caused destruction of property worth Ksh 500 million.

Witnesses reported that the fire began at one of the houses at approximately 7 PM and quickly spread to other houses.

Attempts to stop the fire were unsuccessful as residents were using buckets of water while others were trying to salvage what they could.

When the Laikipia County fire engine finally arrived a few minutes later, residents were shocked to find that it was running low on water.

As a result, the fire continued to spread, and both the firefighters and the villagers watched helplessly as more homes and shops were being consumed by the flames.

Angry residents then flocked to the streets, blocking the busy Nyahururu-Nyeri road to show their dissatisfaction, claiming that county fire firefighters failed to intervene quickly, resulting in the destruction of millions of their hard-earned property.

They are now asking the county administration for assistance, as many families have been affected and require immediate assistance.

Furthermore, they demanded that a fire engine be installed in every densely populated region in Nyahururu and that it be well-equipped and ready to respond when such occurrences occur.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but police have launched investigations into the incident.
