Over 500 families displaced by floods in Mandera

Over 500 families in Mandera East, Mandera County have been displaced due to floods menace, Kenya Red Cross says.

This came about after River Daua burst its banks following heavy rainfall in the Southern Ethiopian Highlands.

“The Kenya Red Cross has already registered the affected families to provide food and other essential items support in the coming days,” read part of their statement.

A donation from UNICEF has seen 350 families receive non-food items including jerrycans, soaps, water treatment chemicals and dignity kits.

Meanwhile, most schools may not resume learning on Monday, May 13 as directed by President William Ruto.

Some of the displaced families in Nakuru County have set up at Ngeya Girls Secondary School even as students prepare to open school tomorrow.

Nearly half of the classes are being used to store food and other items donated to the flood victims who are currently taking refuge at nearby Prayer Beyond Boundaries Prayer Center.
