Good news for Kenya’s sporting fraternity as the government will now have to deliver four new world class stadiums in two years.
This is follows the announcement of the acceptance of the Kenya Uganda and Tanzania joint bid for the Hosting rights of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Making the announcement on Wednesday CAF president Patrice Motsepe seemed delighted with the Executive Committee’s decision to award the East Africans the rights.
“The future of African football has never been brighter” he said.
“in the near future an African Nation will win the world Cup”
“The 2027 AFCON is going to be Beautiful, the commitment and the drive made by the three presidents of the three nations shows how eager the region is to host the tournament,” he added.
The East African nations Pamoja bid beat Senegal , Botswana and Algeria, however Algeria had withdrawn their candidacy on the eve of the announcement .
Kenya had fronted improvements and renovation of Nyayo stadium, Kasarani Stadium and Kipchoge Keino stadium.
Last week Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba announced that the three stadiums will be closed for renovation and the project will be spare headed by the Milllitary.
Also in the masterplan Namwamba revealed plans for the construction of a brand new stadium called Talanta stadium.
Tanzania already has a CAF certified Stadium the Benjamin Mkapa National stadium other options include the Chamanzi Complex which host Azam FC and CCM kirumba Stadium.
Uganda had used Namboole stadium in the bid.
Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwedwa has indicate that the work towards achieving a wonderful tournament begins now the Bid was the first step.
CAF requirement for a hosting nation is that Match Venues should be never level five hospitals, five star hotels an Airport and Six stadia to accommodate the 24 teams.
This development now means that Kenya Uganda and Tanzania have direct qualification to the 2027 edition of the tournament.
