Parents urged to make a Will early to save children the agony

Parents have been called upon to make their last will early enough while they are still alive so as to save their children the agony of family and gender disputes and violence that emanates from land and properties succession.

According to Kirinyaga County Gender CEC Nyawira Ngari, most of the gender and family disputes in the county emanates from land, properties and succession cases that can be sorted out by having a will.

Nyawira said that even in the courts, most of the backlog of the cases emanate from the land and properties disputes that can be sorted out through out of court settlement.

Speaking during the county’s gender issues dialogue, Nyawira said that there is need for the parents to help sort out the matters when they are alive by sharing properties to the beneficiaries.

She said that they have had cases where of widows being disposed their husband’s properties after they die and in some cases the widows have ended up dead.

Elizabeth Njenga from Rainforest organisation said that the organisation has partnered with counties to educate opinion leaders on sensitising the public on matters of gender and empowerment.

Njenga said that that apart from succession, they are also sensitising the public on matters economic empowerment.
