Paris Olympics: Kenya’s medal tally reaches five amidst a dramatic week

Kenya has so far accumulated five medals at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics, winning one gold, one silver, and three bronze. Abraham Kibiwott won Kenya’s third bronze medal in the 3000m steeplechase, however this edition’s performance has fallen short of the traditional excellence.

The Olympics officially began for Kenya on Sunday, August 3, with the start of the track and field events, which the country is known for.

All hope is not lost, as Kenya is yet to compete in some major events in which it excels. Today, as the Olympics enter Day 13, only one final is lined up.

This week has been full of drama, from the fall of Amos Serem to Faith Kipyegon’s disqualification and the four athletes who fell during the 5000 meters heat.

Thierry Ndikumwenayo of Team Spain and George Mills of Team Great Britain fell during the men’s 5000m Round 1 on Day 12 of the Olympic Games at Stade de France on August 7, 2024. It was a chaotic scene on the track Wednesday morning, as a collision on the home stretch of the men’s 5000m race ended with multiple runners hitting the ground.
