Paris Olympics: Shujaa still has a shot at the quarterfinals coach Wambua says

Kenya’s sevens team, Shujaa, must win their final Pool B game against Samoa today to qualify for the quarterfinals at the Paris Olympics.

The team had a rough start, losing their first two matches in the pool. They began with a 31-12 defeat against series champions Argentina and later lost 21-7 to Australia.

Coach Kevin Wambua has called on the boys to self-reflect and be confident in their abilities ahead of their crucial match against Samoa. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and consistency throughout the game.

“We were in both games until the last minutes. We had quality opposition, which shows the team has a lot of potential. We just need to make sure we play consistently for the full 14 minutes,” said Wambua.

“Samoa is a quality side. We have played them before, with mixed results. Our focus now is to review the last games, identify areas for improvement, encourage the boys on the fantastic bits, and minimize errors,” he added.

The last Pool B match between Kenya and Samoa will be played today at 3:00 PM EAT.

The rugby sevens ranking matches and the final will take place on July 27, as per the International Olympic Committee (IOC) rules, which stipulate that no medals are awarded and no athletes are eliminated before the opening ceremony.
