Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has shared that being in Parliament can become flashy.
In an exclusive interview on TV47 with George Maringa, Woman Rep Njeri Maina opened up about the glitter of being in Parliament.
During the interview, Njeri Maina expressed her relief in remaining grounded after joining parliament.

“It’s so easy to get lost in there. You come in, you have cars, you have security, it can get very flashy very fast and you sort of lose touch with who you are,” she shared.
She went ahead to share that she was proud that she had managed to stay grounded and keep a steady profile since joining parliament.

Njeri Maina independent in UDA
According to Kirinyaga Woman Rep, her grounding has immensely contributed to her maintaining a level of independence on issues.
However, she did mention that this independence on issues came at a cost as it competes with different factors which was tested during the vote for the Finance Bill 2024.

Nonetheless, she did highlight that it was critical to maintain the balance of said issues due to their deciding factor on critical agendas.
According to her, the Finance Bill 2024 did have some positive things but also some things were being overstretched.

One of the things she highlighted that did not make sense in the Finance Bill 2024 was the introduction of a VAT tax on diapers.
Consequently, such taxes made the public unwilling to listen to legislators and lose trust in their conduct in parliament.

Is President Ruto overpromising Kenyans
Pressed on the question of whether President Ruto was overpromising Kenyans on delivery, the Woman Rep highlighted that indeed the president was in the process of delivering.
She was keen to highlight the digital hubs project the president had spearheaded across the country to mitigate youth unemployment.

According to her, the president has to give the Kenyan people hope in the work the government is doing and the prospects of a better future.
From her point of view, hope and promise are the currencies that politicians such as herself rely on to engage with the people.
