Pastor Anselm Madubuko on their age gap with Emmy Kosgei: ‘God told me, I bless kings with young women’

HUMAN INTERESTNIGERIA

Nigerian preacher Anselm Madubuko had no idea he was sitting next to a gospel sensation when he met Emmy Kosgei at a church in Mombasa.

Invited to minister at Pastor Dr. Lai’s church, he was captivated when Emmy took the stage to sing.

Her voice reminded him of the legendary Miriam Makeba, and he couldn’t help but admire her talent. Curious, he asked who she was and was told she was Kenya’s gospel queen.

“I didn’t know anything about her. I just thought, whoever marries this woman is truly blessed,” he recalled.

At the time, Madubuko had no thoughts of remarrying.

He had lost his wife in 2012 and had resolved to remain single. But fate had other plans. His own son was the first to suggest he consider Emmy as a wife.

That seed took root, and soon, Madubuko felt a divine nudge.

“One day, as I prayed, God told me, ‘I don’t give old men to kings. I bless kings with young women,'” he shared.

Winning Emmy’s heart

Convincing Emmy, however, was no easy task.

The deeply religious singer was hesitant and reserved.

She often traveled to Nigeria to minister at his church, where the congregation adored her.

But despite his growing admiration, she remained distant.

One day, during a phone call, Emmy confided in him about relationship struggles.

She was dating someone, but it wasn’t going well. Madubuko, seizing the moment, asked her a simple but profound question:

“If he’s already stressing you now, what will happen in marriage?”

Gently, he encouraged her to seek a man who would truly love her.

Little did she know, he was preparing the ground for himself.

Not long after, she broke up with her boyfriend, and Madubuko made his move.

He rerouted his flight to London via Kenya, met her, and boldly asked for her hand in marriage. Emmy was stunned.

“It was a big problem for her. She looked at me like an angel from heaven,” he laughed.

Despite their 22-year age gap, the two tied the knot, and 11 years later, their love remains strong.

Addressing claims that Kenyan women aren’t submissive, Madubuko dismissed the notion, praising them as “the best and most wonderful people.”

Looking back on his past, he acknowledged his flaws before salvation, admitting to a life of many girlfriends, including one who tried to take her own life after he left her.

But those days are long behind him.

Today, he stands as a man transformed, leading a ministry with Emmy by his side,a love story neither of them saw coming but one written by destiny.
