Police Statement

In a statement issued by the police, Commander Maina explained that Pastor Ezekiel did not comply with set laws.

His notice should have been sent with a 72-hour advance notice requirement as mandated by the law.

However, he added that the televangelist would be able to conduct his crusade next week.

“We could not permit Pastor Ezekiel to proceed with his crusade due to his short notice,” Maina stated.

“The law requires that you notify the police within 72 hours, but he will hold it next week.” Commander reiterated.

Additionally, Pastor Ezekiel had requested five days for the crusade to start on Wednesday.

However, Commander Maina stated that it would still take place over the same duration the coming week.

The crusade was initially scheduled to be held at the Kwa Kenga wa Mua farm in Basi junction along the Kilifi-Malindi Highway.

This mega-religious event was planned to commence on Wednesday, September 27, and conclude on Sunday, October 1.

Is Pastor Ezekiel being targeted?

This incident marks another instance of law enforcement shutting down one of the renowned televangelist’s crusades.

Earlier in the year, a joint crusade led by Pastor Ezekiel and organized with his mentor, veteran televangelist Pastor Pius Muiru.

The Crusade set to happen in Machakos was abruptly cancelled without prior notice to the followers and the Pastor’s legal team.

Nevertheless, Ezekiel asserted, through his lawyer Danstan Omari, that a valid license had been issued by the Machakos county security team.

Mr Omari confirmed that the license was legitimate and that its terms of issuance had not been violated.

Consequently, there was no legal reason as to why the police shut down his joint crusade on short to no notice.

The famed pastor also had his television station license revoked following his release from jail.

He had been detained on allegations of being connected to the Shakahola Massacre, raising questions about whether he was being specifically targeted.
