In 2020, the family rallied together to launch a fundraiser as six-year-old Jonathan battled Bilateral Retinoblastoma.

It’s a rare form of eye cancer diagnosed just weeks after his birth on January 20, 2018.

An urgent injection followed at six weeks old as one eye faced a significantly advancing condition.

For three years, chemotherapy sessions became a regular part of Jonathan’s life, leading to frequent trips to the operating theatre every three weeks.

In late 2020, the left eye tumour ceased responding to chemotherapy.

The family organized a successful fundraiser, enabling Jonathan to undergo specialized brachytherapy procedures in India.

However, COVID-19 lockdowns extended their stay until the government facilitated their evacuation in May 2020.

Post-return, six more theatre reviews marked Jonathan’s continued medical journey.

In 2023, challenges heightened as he faced fever, low blood, and platelet counts, resulting in numerous admissions and tests, including bone marrow biopsies.

On Monday, November 20, a routine paediatrician review brought the latest setback—Jonathan was diagnosed with B-ALL Leukemia.

Currently admitted, the estimated cost of his ongoing treatment is Sh4.5 million.

As Naomi follows in her father’s footsteps, she urges compassion and support for Jonathan’s medical battle.
