Paternity Fraud | Former Chelsea, Real Madrid star divorces wife of 12 years after discovering he’s not biological father of his children

Do you know what Paternity Fraud is?

Paternity fraud is when a mother knowingly tells a man that a child is biologically his, when it is not true.

For this scenario to qualify as paternity fraud, the mother must first present to the man that the child is his. Second, the mother must be knowing that it is not true.

In fact, Moore Barlow LLP – a British law firm, says that, “Simply being silent about who the biological father of a child is does not amount to paternity fraud, neither does just having suspicions.”

Yet in law, this is technically a new concept, with very little statistics here in Kenya. This is what has befallen former Real Madrid and Chelsea midfielder Geremi Njitap.

Geremi Njitap

Njitap has filed for divorce from his wife of 12 years after finding out that he is not the biological father of his twins.

When Geremi Njitap wedded Laure Fotso back in 2012. The motivation for the marriage back then was because Laure said Geremi was the biological father of the twins she had in 2008.

The Cameroonian embarked on the divorce mission after DNA tests came out a shocker – that his children were fathered by his wife’s ex.

The 45-year-old’s wife — Laure Fotso — supposedly had an affair with her former spouse while she was with him.

The twins were born in June 2008, four years before Geremi and Laure married in a lavish wedding. Reports indicate that the children were the motivation for the couple to marry.

“No children have been born from this union [between Geremi and Laure]. But the discovery that the children were from her previous partner destroyed the couple’s harmony. It caused him a huge emotional shock,” court documents read, as reported by The Sun.

Geremi — who played for Madrid between 1999 and 2003 — made 109 appearances for Chelsea between 2003 and 2007.
