Police have launched investigations in Kisii County following the tragic death of Daniel Orare in a hospital toilet.
According to officials, Orare, a patient who had been hospitalized for over a week due to an unspecified illness, was found dead with a hospital bed sheet tied around his neck and hanging on the shower tap.
“The deceased had died by suicide using a hospital bed sheet,” police stated.
This incident is part of a disturbing trend of three reported cases of suicide in the country.
Orare’s death was the first, followed by that of Simeon Nyatuka, aged 49, who was found hanging from a tree in Morombo village.
Police reported that Nyatuka “used a blue mosquito net” to take his life, and local residents revealed that he had been living alone after separating from his wife a long time ago.
His body was later moved to the Kisii Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting post-mortem.
In another case, Paul Muoki, 65, was discovered hanging from the rafters of his three-room house in Mithanga village, Machakos County, with a sisal rope tied around his neck.
Police noted, “No suicide note was recovered,” and the body was subsequently moved to the Kathiani Level Four Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
Meanwhile, a body was found on the roadside in Maua, Meru County, behind a petrol station. Authorities confirmed the body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
