Patient,72, shoots himself dead at emergency wing of a hospital in Nairobi

A patient in a hospital in South B shot himself dead while awaiting medication on Monday February 26, 2024 evening.

The patient who was a 72-year-old man, identified as Abdala Mohamed used a pistol to commit the heinous act.

Abdala was taken to the hospital by his driver to seek medication when he was informed that the medicine was unavailable at the moment.

This left him stranded and he walked out to make calls in the parking lot.

Abdala was in possession of a Beretta pistol which he used to shoot himself in the chin.

The incident is said to have taken place near the emergency section.

His driver who was taking care of him called for help but sadly he succumbed while being attended to.

It was a devastating scenario that caused a lot of commotion in the hospital.

The incident was reviewed by the local authorities as it happened around the Industrial Area.

Report from the hospital

According to a witness, the man seemed to have a way round the firearm as he didn’t show a lot of fidgeting.

However, the hospital has not yet released any information regarding the matter.

The customer care desk staff, who talked to journalists said that the man was suffering from a rare disease which needed medication for sustenance.

The patient however felt the pain of not being able to go a day without the medicine and sought refuge in suicide.

Police have launched investigations into the matter, as they seek to unravel history of the victim.

Further consultations with the renowned hospital proved to be futile since the officials were not available to comment on it.

The patient was a licensed firearm owner and the gun hadn’t been recently active.

Police have followed up on the case and are yet to derive a clear picture of the incident.
