Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has appointed Patrick Korir as the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following the resignation of Barry Otieno, who has held the position since 2019. Otieno initially succeeded Robert Muthomi, who was ousted amid allegations of abuse of office.
In an official statement to the media, FKF confirmed that Korir was headhunted by Nairobi City Stars to fill Otieno’s role on an interim basis. The statement highlighted Korir’s extensive experience in Kenyan football, having worked as a journalist, football coordinator, and CEO at Nairobi City Stars.
“Patrick brings a wealth of experience in Kenyan football, having served as a journalist, football coordinator, and CEO at Nairobi City Stars. His in-depth understanding of the sport, combined with his management expertise, ensures a smooth transition without disruption to FKF’s operations,” read the FKF communication.
Korir will manage FKF’s operations in the remaining weeks of the current term, which is set to conclude in December.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether Barry Otieno will run for any elective office in the upcoming football elections. Having served as FKF’s head of communications before his rise to CEO, Otieno has been speculated to aim for the top seat at the federation, although he has yet to officially declare his candidacy.
