Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his contentment with winning the Treble after Newcastle United dashed their hopes of securing the Quadruple this season.
Swedish striker Alexander Isak found the net at St James Park early in the second half, effectively ending City’s aspirations of claiming four major trophies.
Guardiola conveyed his perspective in a post-match interview, stating, “You think the target was the quadruple? We are more than happy with the treble.”
In the third round of the competition, Pep Guardiola made seven changes to his starting line-up that secured victory against Nottingham Forest last weekend. Unfortunately, the experimental line-up failed to secure a win.
“We displayed brilliance in the first half and showcased our style of play. However, we couldn’t secure the victory in the end. Congratulations to Newcastle… and we still have three more competitions ahead of us,” Guardiola remarked.
Erling Haaland, the star striker with eight goals in nine games this season, remained on the bench for the full 90 minutes.
His absence was evident in City’s lackluster performance in front of goal.
Julian Alvarez, his replacement, had two promising opportunities, including one shot that was denied by Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope’s outstretched foot.
Despite holding 68 percent possession, City had fewer shots on target than the Magpies.

One positive aspect Guardiola highlighted was the impressive performance of Norwegian midfielder Oscar Bobb, who made his first senior start.
The 20-year-old stood out as one of the team’s top performers, earning praise from his manager.
“Oscar was absolutely brilliant, both in offense and defense. He played various roles – as a No. 10, a striker, and a winger. We know he moves excellently in the middle pockets,” commented Guardiola on the young talent.
