English defender Phil Jones is back at Manchester United, just months after he left the club following the expiration of his contract.
Jones bid farewell to the club he had called home for 12 years. He penned an emotional letter to the fans in which said to had lived the dream at Old Trafford.
“My time at United has been nothing short of incredible. never left a stone unturned in the pursuit of living my dream and representing Manchester United on the pitch. I lived a dream at the biggest club in the world,” Jones said in the letter.
Jones joined Manchester United in 2011 from Blackburn Rovers and went on to achieve significant success notably winning the Premier League in 2013.
He also won the FA Community Shield in 2011 and 2013, the FA Cup in 2016, and the UEFA Europa League in 2017. In total, he made 229 appearances for the Red Devils.
Since being let go by Erik ten Hag, Jones, now 31 years old, continues to contemplate his next career move with no hint of where he will play next or whether he will hang his boots.
Phil Jones returns to Manchester United
Three months after his departure, Jones has returned to the Carrington training complex just to watch academy training sessions.
Despite his departure from the club and ongoing uncertainty about his future in professional football, Jones remains a familiar face at Carrington.
While rumours initially suggested that he might be coaching the Under-18s, it has been clarified that his current role is that of an observer, with no immediate plans for a coaching position.
The former Three Lions defender has been a prominent figure around the academy training ground in recent weeks and the Manchester United academy continues to benefit from his presence.
His presence is seen as an opportunity for these prospects to learn from someone who has accumulated a wealth of knowledge during his successful career.
