The 2025 Madaraka Day Celebrations will be held at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay Town.

Construction works are ongoing to rehabilitate the stadium to have a cumulative capacity of 12,000.

The theme of this year’s celebrations is: ‘Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs’.

Construction is also ongoing to expand and rehabilitate Kabunde Airstrip and some identified road infrastructure within the area, in preparation to the national celebrations.

And in the spirit of this year’s theme of blue economy, the government is continuing with the construction of the Homa Bay Modern Fish Market, a flagship project under the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Designed to revolutionize the fishing industry in the region, the project features state-of-the-art facilities, including modern fish landing sheds, a communal kitchen and advanced cold storage units.

These facilities are poised to address long-standing challenges in the sector, such as post-harvest losses and inadequate infrastructure, while creating a conducive environment for fish traders and processors.

Once operational, the market is expected to serve approximately 2,000 fishmongers daily, providing them with a modern, efficient and hygienic space to conduct their businesses.
