Suspected bandits have raided Kamologon village in Kapushen, Pokot South along the West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties border killing a seven-year-old girl who was in company of other three girls while herding livestock.
This comes days after the KDF chopper carrying former and late Chief of Defense Forces General Francis Ogolla alongside other KDF officers crashed at Sintar along the West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties border.
Bandits are also reported to have made away with unknown number of livestock of which were later recovered by the National Police Reservists.
This was successfully implemented through collaboration with Anti-Stock Theft Unit Police (ASTU) who were able to respond to the attack swiftly.
The incident happened Wednesday evening, living locals in panic. The body of the deceased Shirleen Juliasia was later collected at the scene by the police officers and taken to Kapenguria County referral hospital for postmortem.
Locals have however decried the high cases of insecurity being witnessed in the area, calling on the security team to move with speed and calm the situation.
Tapach Member of County Assembly (MCA) Samuel Korinyang alluded that for a long time the security officers in the area are never willing to help, calling on the ministry to transfer them to other places where there are minimal cases of insecurity.
Three weeks ago, governors from three warring communities counties of West Pokot, Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties held a peace meeting in Elgeyo Marakwet County to find a lasting solution to the banditry menace.
Currently, a multi-agency team comprising of National Police Service and Kenya Defence Forces is deployed in the North Rift under operation Maliza Uhalifu. This is part of government’s efforts to eliminate banditry in the area and restore normal livelihoods.
The late General Ogolla crashed while enroute to inspect schools which were due for re-opening after weeks of closure due to bandit attacks.
