Police in Mombasa have arrested 150 suspects behind a spate of violent robbery incidents in the city and its environs.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, April 24 in different locations within Mombasa Central Business District (CBD).
A multi-agency team composed of both police and Mombasa County enforcement officers raided the robbers’ hideouts in Makadara grounds, Mama Ngina, Jalaram Feeding Centre, Docks Roundabout and Mbaraki Cemetery.
“During the operation [which started at around 11 am] we managed to arrest hundred and forty (140) adults and ten (10) juveniles. Their hideouts were destroyed and their crude weapons confiscated,” a police report says.
All the suspects are currently been held at Central Police Station.
Mombasa County Commissioner Abdi Noor say the suspects will be arraigned in court tomorrow (Thursday, April 25) morning.
