Police officers in Kitengela have arrested 20 boda boda riders for reportedly damaging a female driver’s car on Thursday, January 18.
The Friday evening raid was led by Kitengela OCPD who sought backup from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers.
“The above operation was conducted today January 19, 2024, by the OCS Kitengela, DCI Personnel and a team of officers, in response to an incident that occurred within Kitengela township on January 18, 2024, reported vide OB 98/18/01/2024,” read part of the police report.
Twenty-six (26) motorbikes were detained at the Kitengela Police Station.
Police say the riders will on Monday be charged with assault and maliciuous damage of property.
In a video making rounds on social media on Friday, a number of angry riders were seen throwing stones at the woman’s black Nissan Juke vehicle.
A red motorbike was beneath the black vehicle as the female driver locked herself up to avoid facing the irate boda boda riders.
Moments later, police officers arrived to disperse the irked riders who hurled stones, damaging windows of the car.
A police report filed by the riders indicated that the woman in question had hit a boda boda rider enroute to Kitengela from Athi River. The incident left the pilion passenger nursing injuries on his right leg and head.
“The driver then sped off towards Namanga general direction through the Arusha Service Lane and hit a pedestrian aged 32 years injuring him on the left leg below the knee and his son aged 4 years who complained of chest pains,” the report added.
This trail of accidents increased to three after the woman reportedly knocked down another rider while fleeing from angry locals.
Police are yet to reveal the identity of the female driver. Investigations kicked off to ascertain whether she caused the reported accidents.
