Police arrest 5 notorious gangsters; recover mobile phones, flat screen TVs

Police in Kinawataka, a neighbourhood in Uganda’s capital Kampala, have arrested five notorious suspects who have been causing havoc in the area.

The officers launched an operation after receiving a case of burglary and theft on December 14, 2024 at Kinawataka Police Station.

Acting on intelligence, the police assisted by Uganda People’s Defence Forces and local leaders conducted an operation in the areas of Katoogo and Kinawataka zones leading to the arrest of Ahebwa Elton, Yende Owen, Kisiro Sam, Kabogoza Becham and Mustafa Adam.

Following their arrest, police searched their hideout (semi-permanent structures) recovering exhibits ranging from a flat screen, mobile phones, a music hoofer, marijuana, materials for rolling marijuana among other items. Some of the exhibits were the very items reported stolen.

“The Uganda Police also expressed concerns regarding incomplete structures in neighbourhoods, highlighting that these could serve as potential hiding spots for criminals,” the police said, urging local councils to take action and escalate these issues to the appropriate local government authorities responsible for construction regulations.
