Police in Nairobi have arrested eight suspects involved in a series of attacks and robberies targeting innocent Kenyans along Thika Highway on March 11, 2025.
On the fateful day, the reported daylight robberies and attacks on innocent civilians overshadowed President William Ruto’s tour of Ruaraka and Mathare constituencies, sparking criticism countrywide.
In response, police officers launched a crackdown to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the criminal acts and ensure public safety is restored.
The first suspect — John Junior Oginga — who was reportedly armed with a knife when he attacked and robbed an unsuspecting individual of an Oppo A77S mobile phone valued at KSh28,000, was arrested along Thika Highway and was escorted to Pangani Police Station.
Police say that Jared Nyanza, Darlin Lande, Daniel Okombe, Mike Robert, Elvis Otieno, Reagan Omondi and Mathenge Gachiri, who were among a group of ten who robbed members of the public of their phones and other valuables in Mathare Area 4 have also been arrested. The suspects were escorted to Muthaiga Police Station.
“Also recovered from their possession was seven brand-new shirts, believed to be stolen property,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reports. “All the suspects were processed and subsequently arraigned.”
Meanwhile, police officers have intensified their crackdown to bring to justice additional suspects involved in the said criminal acts.
