Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday May 28, 2024 arrested a robbery suspect in Nanyuki town, Laikipia County.
In a statement, police noted that Renkel Lentaam, a Samburu male adult aged 46 years was arrested within Nanyuki town.
“Today at about 1200hrs the DCI Laikipia North officers arrested one suspect of robbery namely Renkel Lentaam a samburu male adult aged 46 years within Nanyuki town.
Upon interrogation the suspect further led a GSU team from Arjijo operation camp and DCI officers to Arjijo area within Laikipia North sub county in Makurian location inside Mukogodo forest where he had hidden an illegal firearm.
“The said firearm make Carbine rifle was recovered while hidden in a tree trunk in a sack with a total of 53 rounds of 7.62× 39mm calibre,” police reported.
The suspect is being held at a police station in Laikipia as officers prepare to present him in court.
He was arrested a day after a firearm that was stolen from a female police officer in Kasarani on February 16 2024 was found on Sunday May 26, 2024 abandoned at the gate of Githurai Police Post.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said the riffle had 23 bullets when it was recovered.
“The good thing is that it has not been used in any crime so far,” he said
