A suspected criminal was shot dead during an attempted robbery in the Eastleigh area of Nairobi.
According to the police report, the suspect and an accomplice were targeting pedestrians on Muratina Road in the morning of Wednesday, January 1, 2025 when an alarm was raised.
What led to the shooting incident
The duo attacked a pedestrian heading to Al-Hidaya Mosque for prayers along Jam Street, where the victim was robbed of his mobile phone at gunpoint.
This prompted him to call for help, alerting nearby police officers on patrol.
The police responded quickly, engaging in a brief chase that resulted in one of the suspects being shot dead.
What was recovered from the scene
The accomplice managed to escape with injuries, and a homemade firearm capable of firing was recovered from the scene.
It is believed that the other robber fled with the stolen mobile phone.
The body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary for identification and further procedures.
In light of rising armed robbery cases, especially with the back-to-school season approaching, police have increased patrols in the city and surrounding urban areas.
They anticipate a rise in robbery incidents in the coming weeks and have implemented strategies to tackle these concerns.
In a separate incident, two suspects were rescued and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being attacked by a mob during a failed robbery in Dandora, Nairobi.
It was reported that they attempted to steal a mobile phone from a pedestrian when an alarm was raised, alerting the mob on January 1, 2025 at around 10 am.
