Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin appeared in court on Thursday, January 30, 2025, to provide information about three individuals who were reported missing in Mlolongo, Machakos County in December 2024.
Appearing before Justice Chacha Mwita at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, Kanja stated that the three missing youth were not in any of the police stations.
The police IG Kanja disclosed that the missing persons’ reports were recorded at Athi River Police Station under OB No. 23/21/12/24 and Mlolongo Police Station under OB No. 43/25/12/2024.
“Your honour, I am appearing before this court pursuant to a court order that directed I do appear on account of three persons who were reported missing from Athi River and Mlolongo Townships,” said IG Kanja.
”Your honour, we have none of the subjects. I want to confirm before this court that we have none of them,” he added.
At the same time, the police boss told the court that the National Police Service(NPS) is still investigating the disappearance of the three youths.
Meanwhile, DCI boss Amin revealed that they were actively investigating the missing of the three.
The DCI boss emphasized that the file will be submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions(ODPP) after completing the investigations.
”I wish to confirm that the investigations are still on course and at an appropriate time, the files will be forwarded to the ODPP,” Amin stated.
”The missing persons are not under the custody of the national police service. They were not arrested and they are not under our custody,” he added.
However, the DCI boss maintained that they were not in position to comply with the court orders directing them to produce the three in court.
