Police in Nakifuma, central Uganda, are looking for a primary school head teacher who is accused of defiling his pupil on several occasions.
Otim Jolly Joe, the head teacher of Grace Day Care Orphanage Primary School in Busenya village, is said to have gone into hiding.
Police say that they are searching for him for the aggravated defilement of a 14-year-old pupil during the month of August 2023.
Defilement during holidays
Preliminary investigations have revealed that during holidays, the suspect would sent for the victim to come to his home.
“When the victim entered the room, the suspect closed the door, forcefully undressed the victim and sexually assaulted her,” Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says.
It has been established that in September, the teacher gave the victim UGX5000 (KSh200), to go for a medical check up and she was found to be pregnant.
“Again on the 30.09.2023, the suspect gave the victim Ugx 60,000 (KSh2,400) to procure an abortion, which the medical workers objected to and alerted the school director and the victim’s mother,” a police report says.
Warning to sex pests
“We strongly condemn such acts of child sexual abuse, by teachers and caretakers, who are looked at as protectors and defenders of the rights of children, especially the girl child,” Enanga warned.
