A Ugandan police officer has been dismissed from the force after he was charged with attempted murder.

Busoga North Territorial Police dismissed officer Bwire Moses Mangeni on disciplinary charges and attempted murder.

On the night of September 12th 2023 at Namugongo Police Post, Mangeni is said to have requested keys to the police motorcycle, so as to travel to his home in Busia District.

However, he was denied the motorcycle, the only means of transport that night at around 11pm. This incensed him.

Police officer goes berserk

The 27-year-old picked up a hoe and hacked his colleague, Police Constable Kutosi Tyson, inflicting serious injuries on him.

“Immediately after, he picked a gun with 30 rounds and fired all the bullets. Several bullet holes were found in the room of the OC post,” reports the Uganda Police Force.

The victim was rushed to Musana Community Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested as he handed over the gun with an empty magazine.

Uganda police say Mangeni appeared in court on September 15, on charges of attempted murder.
