The National Police Service (NPS) has interdicted a police officer who was involved in the shooting of a teenager in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi.
At the same time, NPS and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) have launched investigations into the shooting incident that took place on March 4, 2025, in Shauri Moyo.
In a press statement released on March 5, 2025, the National Police Service confirmed that the police officer has been identified as a suspect in the case.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Internal Affairs Unit have taken charge of further inquiries to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation.
Authorities have urged members of the public, particularly the youth in the affected area, to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by providing any relevant information.
“As a Service, we remain committed to our mandate of maintaining law and order,” read part of the police report.
This incident raises concerns about police conduct, especially in low-income areas where tensions between law enforcement and residents have been historically high.
However, the National Police Service has assured the public of accountability in handling the case.
Shauri Moyo, a densely populated area in Nairobi, was thrown into panic following reports of an alleged shooting incident involving police officers.
The incident, which occurred during a routine patrol on Tuesday, sparked tension among residents, with some claiming excessive use of force by law enforcement.
Investigators continue to gather evidence and further updates on the case are expected as the probe progresses.
