Police officer perishes in road accident along Kisumu-Kakamega Highway

A police officer of senior ranking lost his life on Saturday evening in a road accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.

Reports indicate that the deceased, Inspector Alexandra Leshan from Khayega Police Station was involved in a head-on collision at Isikhu river, leading to his untimely demise.

Inspector Leshan was apparently travelling in the company of other officers heading towards Kisumu at around 5pm, where they collided with another vehicle.

The senior ranking officer lost his life on the spot while his colleagues survived with serious injuries and were rushed to various hospitals for treatment.

Police officer dies on the spot

Police reports showed that the saloon car in which the deceased was travelling lost control and smashed into another vehicle belonging to the Ministry of East African Community- a prado.

The driver of the Toyota Prado only sustained injuries on his right hand and reportedly complained of chest pains.

One of the surviving police officers reportedly sustained injuries on his right leg while the other had a fracture on his hand.

A female passenger who was on board bore head injuries.

They were all rushed to Kakamega County Referral Hospital while the deceased was transferred to the hospital’s morgue.

Turkana accident kills four

On Saturday, four people perished in yet another accident in Turkana County.

They were aboard a bus travelling from Nairobi to Kakuma. The bus, belonging to Tosha company lost control at Kalemng’orok Trading Center, veered off the road and rammed onto pedestrians who were seated by the road, killing four of them on the spot.

“One woman who sustained serious injuries was rushed to Lokichar Sub-County Hospital for treatment and later referred to Lodwar County & Referral Hospital,” read a statement by National Police Service.

The bodies have been moved to Lodwar County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

This come amidst caution from Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for drivers and passengers to maintain road safety measures during this festive season.
