A police officer is the latest road accident victim after perishing in an accident along the Marsabit-Moyale Highway on Friday, April 12.
Deputy OCS Turbi Inspector Wambua reported the incident at Marsabit Police Station around 7pm Friday.
According to the police report, the deceased- Corporal Shadrack Mwendwa- crashed in a police vehicle he was driving at Kambi Nyoka area along the Marsabit-Moyale Highway.
Mwendwa and seven other occupants in the Toyota Land Cruiser QRU were reportedly heading to Moyale from Marsabit when they crashed at around 4:30pm.
“Upon reaching the location of the accident, he lost control of the said vehicle and veered off the road and landed sideways to the left side of the road facing opposite direction,” read part of the police report.
Due to the impact, Corporal Mwendwa died instantly while the other occupants survived with injuries.
Police Constable Dennis Kenda Kipsang sustained bruises on the right elbow and back as well as injuries on the head.
Police Constable Zachariah Wanyama Frachi sustained a fracture on the left collar bone.
Another police officer identified as Tarcisio Macharia Wangoi sustained bruises on the right elbow and forehead.
49-year-old Zainab Waraga Dabasso suffered fracture on the right ribs and head.
Other survivors are; Ibrahim Osman Hassan (hand, head injuries), Jibo Isaac Sora (chest pains) and Abdirizak Ibrahim Dika (left hand fracture).
They were all rushed to Marsabit County Referral Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the body of the late officer was moved to the hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem.
The wreckage was towed to Marsabit Police Station for inspection.
