The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has recommended murder charges for the police officer involved in the fatal shooting of four people at Vegas Club in Nakuru.
Police Constable Nicholas Musyoka Musau based at Nakuru Central Police Station will be charged with murder for shooting four people at Loritas Liquor Club popularly known as Vegas Club, in Nakuru.
“Having reviewed the inquiry file, the DPP is satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to sustain a charge of murder.
“The DPP has therefore directed that the suspect be charged with two counts of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code today, 10th January 2024 at Nakuru High Court, Nakuru County,” the DPP noted in a statement.

The shooting incident at a popular club in Nakuru that occurred on December 13, 2023 led to the death of Ann Maina and Laura Kwasira.
During the incident, Benjamin Kote and Edwin Apungana survived with serious wounds and are undergoing treatment at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.
The DPP had directed the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to conduct an independent and comprehensive investigation and submit the inquiry file within 14 days.

“The DPP reiterates his endeavor to continue the coordination, cooperation and collaboration with Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) into the foreseeable future in order to enhance accountability, efficiency and expeditiousness in the prosecution of similar cases within the criminal justice system,” noted the DPP.
According to eyewitnesses, the police officer shot the barmaid and three others during an argument as he refused to pay a Ksh16,000 bill.
The police officer escaped from the scene immediately after the shooting incident.
