A former police officer has been convicted for defiling a minor following an investigation conducted by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
Jacob Conrad Ojiambo, who was a Sergeant in the Administration Police Service, was found guilty of the offense on Thursday, March 20. He committed the beastly act on April 14, 2019.
According to a statement IPOA Chairperson Isaack Hassan, investigation established — among other pieces of evidence — that Ojiambo grabbed the youngster and frog-marched her to his house, situated at the Administration Police Post at Mitahato, Githunguri in Kiambu County. It is at this place that he committed the crime.
At the time, the victim was a Standard Eight pupil at a local primary school.
Initially, the defilement was investigated by officers at Githunguri Police Station but IPΟΑ on learning of the matter, took over and conducted an independent investigation.
IPOA’s probe found Ojiambo culpable and forwarded the investigation file to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who upheld its recommendation to charge, resulting to an arraignment on October 26, 2021 at Githunguri Law Courts.
“Yesterday, March 20, 2025, he was found guilty and convicted for the offence of Defilement contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act,” Hassan says in the statement.
The former police officer will be sentenced on April 23, 2025.
“IPOA reiterates that members of the National Police Service (NPS) shall discharge their mandate professionally and responsibly in accordance with Article to 244 of the Constitution. The Authority is independent, fair and impartial in all its investigations.”
