Police: Officers guarding Equity Bank were attacked, robbed by mob in Rongai

A report filed at Ongata Rongai Police Station says the two officers were guarding Equity Bank when they were attacked by a mob.

It is now emerging that a violent mob attacked police officers from Nkoroi APS Camp who were guarding Equity Bank Ongata Rongai Branch on Thursday, June 27.

A report filed at Ongata Rongai Police Station says that the riotous group descended upon the officers, stripped them of their uniforms, beat them up, and robbed them of their rifles, wallets containing ATM cards and mobile phones.

Despite their efforts, the report adds that the officers were overwhelmed by the mob in the incident that occurred at around 5 pm.

Anti-riot police officers who responded to the situation, however, managed to recover the stolen firearms from the riotous mob.

“One APC armed with a G3 rifle loaded with 20 rounds was recovered with 14 rounds of ammunition, while the second APC was armed with an AK 47 with an empty magazine,” the report seen by TV47 Digital reads in part.

One of the assaulted officers sustained minor injuries and received first aid from Red Cross personnel. The other officer is currently admitted to the hospital with serious head injuries.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to apprehend the perpetrators.
